The paint job smooth and silky in most of the areas. However, to my surprise,
there are a good number of bubbles here and there. I had a choice between 4
same models of this car, and all had some issues. Maybe they were issued like
this? Maybe they were stocked in unfitting conditions? Who knows, the only
thing I know is that only this model has this kind of problem. Most of the
livery, like the #34 and small flag are tampos. Very unlikely from MC, but most
probably, as the livery was only white/black, MC decided to go for the BETTER
tampos.
The model has full opening features; both doors, front compartment and engine
cover.
I very much like the front part of the real car with the long nose and long
headlight covers. The car also has a set of foglights which are quite nice
being in 3D form..... :D However, on a sad note, the lights are fitted with a
central stud which is very visible and toy like. In the centre, there is a
small opening for air to come in. there is a small grill 'cleaning' the airflow
which goes straight into two tubes. Once you open the front compartment, you
can see these ducts going into the brakes area for cooling. Most of the front
compartment is hidden by a quite large fueltank. There is also a very realistic
(but not marked) spare tyre and nothing more.
The rear end is very nice aswell, with the large white single slightly
excavated exhausted system and 4 not so bad lights (yet again, the central stud
is visible). The engine cover is a very nice part. It has that small delicate
lip from aerodynamic reasons and the grill on top of the engine is very nice
and realistic. On the other hand, 4 small grills just over the pistons are made
by using a decal and even more, two side vents are only coloured in black for
the hollow feel, but aren't!
As it is an old model, this version's doors are supported by those large ugly
doglegs, on an even worse note, the shuts lines between the passnger doors and
the rest of the body isn't that great either. The cockpit is a good
reproduction, with a realistic coloured steering wheel and very realistic
pedals. The gauges are a readible decal but the seat, even though covered in
felt, have a toyish touch to them. Could have been done better.
The engine cover lifts off in a strange motion which MC did really well to
copy. The engine cover, lifts up and moves backwards so that the mechanics can
work on the small engine, but, as opposite to the 906 and 906LE, the cover does
not come off, and refitting it back on the body is much easier and faster.
About the engine, I must its a very nice replica of a very small, 4 cycilner
engine. The parts are coloured in a very realistic way and the few wires that
are part are individualised.
The rims are very realistic and the rubber, though not branded, is very nice
aswell. As with most of the older race cars, the rim style completely hides the
interior details regarding brakes and suspension. However, the models still
supports very realistic, non working, suspensions and brake disk with caliper.
The brake disk moves with the wheel while the caliper is static, bravo MC.
The undercarriage is a very nice are aswell. One can see the exhaust coming
from the 4 cylinders moving into one larger exhaust system heading towards the
back. Also, even more engine and axle detail can be seen. At the front area, at
little more detail regarding the axle and brake system can be seen. The rest of
the undercarriage is sealed.
In conclusion, I must say that I am very satisfied with some areas... and
disappointed by other. The level of details and care in this model,
particularly in the engine and exhaust system is exceptional. On the other
hand, dog legs and fake vents are an eyesore.
I do reccomend this car because it is nice, it has a certain level of detail
which you expect, but it isn't up to par with todays models.
