Only one real JOTA existed, and that
was accidentally destroyed, the remaining Miura SVJ's are based on
normal Miura P400. This model represents a custom version, probably chassis
3781. Many clients asked to have their P400 changed into a copy of the
beautiful JOTA. Although not one is identical to the original, many just copied
the body features.
Kyosho did quite a fantastic job,
its sleek, stance looks great, paint job is perfect and details
are finely made. Most of the meshes are real, only the ones behind
the doors are not. Lights are a perfect reproduction with no attachment stubs.
The model has a fine number of opening parts; these
being the doors, engine cover, rear boot, front compartment and a filler
cap. Hinges are quite superb. Sadly the front does not stay up by
itself.
The car's engine is another
area which varied from version to version. If this is indeed chassis
3781, the following modifications were made; The engine was rumoured to be
converted into dry sump, modified cams were mounted together with open Weber
carburettors and a very loud race type exhaust system was
installed. Kyosho did the job perfectly. Its all wired up, no excess
chrome, everything looks so darn realistic. Surely one of the best engines
for a model of this range. The front is almost as nice, I am only annoyed
that its quite hard to see. Can't fault Kyosho for that though!
The carpeted interior is another
thumbs up. Seatbelts are separate while the the rest is hard black
plastic. The accuracy is perfect and detailing is quite superb. The seats are a
Recaro race spec, these are not marked on the model.
Wheels and
functional suspension are yet another strong point. The wheels are quite
realistic in gold and silver, it's even got a
valve! The Pirelli tyres are not marked. The worse
part has to be the brake section, they are not well detailed. They are supposed
to be just like the Porsche 917's as this custom used a system taken from
that Porsche but the model just has a plain piece of grey
plastic with both caliper and disk static.
The undercarriage is quite good. Mostly sealed in black, it does show
some other details in the engine and axle area.
Kyosho's effort is sometimes clouded
by 'inaccuracy comments'. Its quite hard to consider this as all SVJ are
marginally different. Although, I truely belief that this replica in red is
chassis 3781, and thus it is quite accurate. In conclusion, this is one of
the best medium range models ever. Don't think about getting it, just
get it!
